The Program
The New School of Drama offers a diploma course in acting. It is designed to take the actor confidently from aspiring beginner to auditioning professional.
The teaching aims to be specific, constructive and encouraging. We keep our classes small - a maximum of 12 students in a group. There are six levels in the 2 year program, each level advancing the student in skills and experience and providing a credit toward the diploma. In the final two levels students perform on stage in front of the public and act in a short dramatic video or film.
The diploma program includes intensive training in Scene Study, Emotional Preparation, Character Development, Relaxation, Concentration, Audition Technique, Film & Television Acting. Voice and Movement for the actor are also explored at each level. On each level more advanced techniques and material are introduced. Videotape is used to provide feedback for the student on progress and for on-camera experience. It is also possible for students to study at the School on a term by term basis without enrolling in the Diploma Program. They can then, if they choose to in the future, use those credits toward a diploma. In addition classes in Mask, Clown, Improvisation, Shakespeare, Voice and other specializations are available from time to time.
The training is practical and hands-on, as well as exciting and rewarding on a personal level.
Because we're dedicated to a high standard of quality, students are interviewed to ensure that serious actors work with actors of equal commitment.
